Live Indoor Plants.

The sun is finally shining and I am finally motivated. This year I've decided that I want to bring the outdoors in. Living plants everywhere. Beautiful, green, living plants.
Here is my first project of the new year.

Greenery, rust, and metal make my heart skip a beat! There's just something about this combination that I really like.

I splurged and picked up 5 ivy "Spearpoint" plants and planted them in this old chicken feeder. I love ivy; it's so pretty, but I tend to kill it. I've never bought this kind, so I'm trying again...

It fits perfect here. I have visions of it just growing and growing cascading all down the pallet... *sigh*

I saw this pretty plant and had to have it. Lowes had it priced for $15; I made it to the register and then had my daughter take it back...I just couldn't spend that much on something that might die.  I went to Walmart and got the very same plant for $8. That's how you do it! It didn't have a tag, but I think the one at Lowes called it a fern, which makes sense, it looks like a fern.

I found this pedestel urn at a thrift store for $2.99. It's solid brass, made in India. A huge score! My new fern, who I call Fern, sits happily on my dining room table. My kids look at me funny when I talk to Fern... You'll be relieved to know that Fern doesn't talk back.

Do you check clearance for plants? Our Lowes has a place in the back of the garden center where they keep clearance plants. Some look rough, but most of them look good. I picked up this bamboo plant regularly priced for almost $11, and got it on clearance for $3.

It's supposedly a low maintenance plant. I stuck it in this thrifted basket and my daughter claimed it for her room.

I hope they live. I don't naturally have a green thumb, but I do have  a craving for greenery, so I'll pay close attention to them.  I'll let you know how it goes.
I hope you were inspired!

Mirror Gallery Wall

About a year ago, I decided to add a mirror gallery wall to my bedroom in the hopes that it would add some much needed light.

I collected these from local thrift stores for cheap. I ONLY bought the cheap ones. I didn't measure or plan where to put them. I just randomly placed them to where they looked good to my eye.

And then I looked at them for several weeks.
Even though I liked how this looked, I decided that for the long haul, I would like them better painted white. Imagine that.

Most of the mirrors had permanent frames so I had to paint around the mirror.  I used index cards to tuck in underneath the mirror frames like this.

Then I taped some paper in the middle like this.

I used my stash of white paint. I painted some of them with gloss and the others with matte.

Here is the finished look. This wall sits behind a seating area in my room. I have 2 chairs that are getting makeovers... whenever I figure out what I want to do to them.
I really like how this turned out. And best of all, every single mirror came from a thrift store.

I hope you were inspired!

A Thrifty Centerpiece.

I've always struggled with centerpieces for the bar and dining room table.
I love pretty but I also need practical.

Do you see what I see? Besides ugly? I picked these up cheap.
I liked the size and I instantly knew what I would do with them.

I took them apart, sanded, and painted. Then I nailed them back together.

Do you see the pretty? And the practical?
My daughter bought me these little bird salt and pepper shakers.

I love the size of these boxes. They don't take up much room
and they're easy to move whenever we start our baking.

The red and white really make it festive.

I used the other one on the dining room table.
Can you believe I picked up this beautiful jar for 2 bucks?

I look forward to changing this up season to season.

 I hope you were inspired!

Thrift Store Hamper Makeover

Today I want to share with you the transformation of an ugly thrift store laundry hamper...
I saw this hamper at Salvation Army. I bought it because it was cheap, narrow, had storage, had detail and it was in excellent condition. I knew I could use it for something else besides a hamper if I needed to, maybe as a table somewhere.

It's made out of some kind of heavy plastic. The inside is clean and has no odor.
The bottom is vented. It's brown so I know it will distress nicely.
I saw potential.

I painted it with white chalk paint and what a transformation!
White paint makes details pop!

I decided to paint a gray grain stripe on the top.

That led to painting the front panels gray also. I kid you not, I rarely have a plan.
I usually start a project and see what happens.

I added some knobs and my husband cut a notch from the bottom to give it more detail.

A happy little hamper...

So what do you think? Did you see potential before I painted it?

1-2-3 Easy July 4th Craft Projects

Can you believe it's here already??? July 4th... this week!
Can we please slow down summer! I beg you!

Last week, I shared with you my patriotic pin wheels. You can see them here.

Here are a few more projects I've been working on.

What do you get when you combine some old denim, a thrift store pillowcase, and burlap?

3 quick and easy projects; just in time for your July 4th celebration.

The first thing I made were these flag pendents.

I love the buttons standing in for the stars.

Project 2, I decided to braid 3 strips of fabric and make a wreath.

I used rubber bands to secure the ends.

I had NO idea where I was going with this... I kept playing with it till I decided to loop it around and make a small wreath.

I tied the two strands together with twine. I punched holes in some chip board stars
(thank you Mom!) and tied them to the wreath.

This is so cute, I'm really happy how it turned out.

Last but not least, I made this rag banner. Very fast and easy!

And here we are....

Hope you all have a wonderful week
and a safe and Happy July 4th!

Thrifting My House.

The name of my blog is "Thrift My House" and there's a good reason for that. Over the years, I really have thrifted my house!

If you came over to visit, first of all, I would be thrilled! We'd chat the day away, laugh a ton and if you had time, we'd hit a few thrift stores. There are 6 thrift stores and 1 flea market within 30 minutes of my house. And I go to all of them! 3 of them, I go to every week.

Here are last weeks finds. I spent less than $20.00 on everything you see here. I have disciplined myself to ONLY buy what I have a plan for. (most of the time)

I hope to inspire the naysayers to give thrift stores a chance. I used to be a naysayer! I'd walk through one and say "this is junk." It took me a while to get the hang of thrifting and it really changed my life.  I can decorate THRIFT my house and stay on budget.

This clock!

It's hanging in my living room and it's gorgeous.

I spent around $16.00. And it was such a fun day.
Me, my Mom and my youngest daughter had a great time!
So many of you tell me that your thrift stores are not good.
My advice is to visit them often. I can walk through and be out in less than 3 minutes if nothing catches my eye. I know that my success with thrifting is due to me going often.
