I have 4 children. My oldest son recently moved out. That resulted in 2 girls getting their own rooms! My youngest daughter is for the first time ever decorating her own room.
Oh happy day!
She needed some extra furniture. So her very thrifty mother found her a dressing table at Salvation Army for $14.00. It was a bit ugly. A very pale flesh colored, nail polished stained table... BUT it had potential. For the price... Great potential.
This table needed a chair. A cheap chair. I quickly found this chair for $4.99. Sturdy, a good size, it needed some paint and some minor alterations but, YES, this chair would work.
A cute couple don't you think.
My sweet husband took the handsaw and cut these pieces off of the chair. I will definitely be using those little legs on something else.
Now, for the makeover. I know I've shared this chalkpaint recipe before, but I am sharing it again. It's so easy and I hope those of you who haven't tried it WILL!
1. 1 tablespoon of Unsanded grout. 2. Mix with 2 tablespoons of warm water. 3. Stir until the grout melts. 4. Pour into 1 cup of paint.
5. Stir well. 6. It has a pudding like texture. Paint!

She wanted it yellow. Not just any yellow, but a yellow called Pale Banana. Let me tell you, there is nothing pale about this color! What's better than chalkpaint? Teaching my sweet daughter how to chalkpaint...
Here it is. With paint included, this was less than $25.00.

She loves it. And because she painted a lot of it herself... she loves it even more. I put a coat of AS wax on it.
Check out this sticker chandelier. We found this at a discount store called Ollies. $3.99.
She needed an armoire for more storage. I had one. In the living room. I didn't love it...And you know what's next... I painted it!
So pretty! Paint made all the details of this piece stand out.
The hardware... I had no idea what to do. They were ugly. I didn't want them to stand out at all... I immediately emailed the Amazingly talented Suzan from Simply Vintagous and asked her what should I do.... and she immediately emailed me back and said chalkpaint right over them. Well, okay. I did. And I love how it looks.
My daughter is precious! She has big dreams. She wants to travel. She's been working on this travel wall. We've been looking for things at thrift stores to fill it.
We found this cool framed map at the flea market for $2.00. We love that it has the names of who owned it before. It has pin marks everywhere these people traveled.. or hoped to travel. We will never know. But isn't it cool!
I hope you enjoyed the sneak peeks of my little girls room. It's still a work in progress. She's still discovering what kind of decor she likes. I love watching her make these decisions.
My little girl is happy with her new makeup table. Because she's her Momma's daughter, I'm sure it will be painted many times...
