Last week my husband had an unexpected business trip to Pennsylvania. We decided to take the opportunity and get away for a few days. Along the way, we stopped at a few landmarks. We stopped by Arlington National Cemetery. What a beautiful place!
This majestic home was on the property.
Arlington House.
Can you imagine coming home to this everyday?
I loved walking through this house. Just imagine the history.
We were touring with several people so I had to take quick photos. I hope you enjoy them.

I have to admit the artwork was kind of creepy...
Did anything catch your eye?
I'll be back later this week with our visit to Lancaster P.A.
I hope you were inspired!
Thank you for stopping by Thrift My House.
Wow, what a house!!!
ReplyDeleteBut I have to say...I'm a little upset you didn't tell me you were in town...we may have been able to meet up!!!

I love touring historical homes and I agree...that painting is very creepy! I'm always amazed at how small the furniture is.
ReplyDeleteOh my...what a beautiful place! I would just want to hang around as long as I could and play "pretend"...lol! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun getaway!
ReplyDeleteThe children dressed like adults painting is pretty creepy!
Hi Sherry what a great little get away. I just love the history of these old homes. That sun porch is pretty sweet. Enjoyed the tour with you. Have a great week.

I really loved your pictures they brought back a lot of memories when I visited. Just love the area. Thanks Sherry for sharing your sweet trip. Jo :)
ReplyDeleteThe house is amazing! The artwork is creepy and I'm so glad you said it first. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Sherry, the cherry blossoms are amazing aren't they? Looks like you enjoyed a nice tour of history. I love going through homes like this too. Looks like an artsy area in one of the last pics. Always enjoy to see that. Gorgeous sun porch too. Thanks for sharing, and glad you had a nice time away. Have a great week.

Okay, my first thought was that painting was creepy, so I'm glad you mentioned it! Otherwise, the blooming trees and the property is beautiful! And, one thing that caught my eye were the beautiful quilts on the beds, so pretty!! I'm sure it was nice to get away for a few day ;) Blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteHave never been there. Looks like a great place to check out!
ReplyDeleteM :)
Isn't the blossom on the trees spectacular?! What a wonderful place to visit! It's exactly the kind of history I love seeing first hand!
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed week!
I used to take 8th graders to DC, and we always went to Arlington. I love that part of the country! (I realized a few days ago that I hadn't seen your blog in my e-mail, and I came over here to see if you had posted anything...I have missed a bunch! I promise I'll get caught up.) I'll re-subscribe and see if it works!
ReplyDeleteI just love touring old homes, so pretty. I would have to say the quilts, I love to see the different ones they have. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteThe house is amazing. I do agree the art work was different. ;-)
I liked the quilts too.

Sherry, gorgeous photos! Were those cherry blossoms? As a child, I visited Washington D.C and those remain my most vivid memory, more so than the White House! The art is creepy, it almost looks like disturbed adult faces photo shopped onto children's bodies ;) Thanks for the tour!
ReplyDeleteThat painting of the kids was really kind of creepy! Great pictures though. Isn't it wonderful how so much of our history has been preserved for generations to enjoy? Glad you went and had a good time- xo Diana
ReplyDeleteDare I admit I'm a fan of that creepy artwork. I am, and it's out now, lol. What a beautiful home tour and your pictures are great!! What I noticed was how tall the ceilings are and the ornateness of the architecture seeing how back then they didn't have machines to make all the pieces. Thanks for sharing, looking forward to your next part of the trip!!

ReplyDeleteGorgeous old home. I love historic houses. Those cherry blossoms are gorgeous! I've been to Lancaster, so pretty there! I look forward to your post. Sounds like you had a fun trip!
ReplyDeleteI love the tour of this beautiful house! I had to laugh about the 'creepy' paintings, but the furnishings, paint colors and fabrics are so wonderful! The windows in the sun room are so pretty. So nice to get away with the Mr., too. xo Karen
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful tour Sherry! I could totally imagine coming home to this house and all eight maids...maybe nine!! I think the butler would be happy to see me too as he would quickly hang my coat for me. And that tree....breathtaking! Nice to have a get away and no cooking!
ReplyDeleteHey there lovely lady! It's been ages since I have come by for a visit - how have you been? I hope you're enjoying the beautiful spring weather :)
ReplyDeleteMy, what a gorgeous old home! Your images were such a delight to look at. Thinking of you, my dear. Love and hugs!
What an amazing home tour ( right up my alley !!! ) That photo of the blossoms is stunning !
ReplyDeleteAnd that sun room ( I think it's a sun room - not sure ) is gorgeous -
I love everything about the house actually except.......................
Those 2 paintings - They look like older people on children's bodies - they scare me - I think I'm going to have a nightmare tonight - I can just feel it coming on LMHO !!!
xoxo
It's always so interesting to see how people lived back then. What caught my eye were the ladies dresses on display in some of the rooms. It gave me more of a sense of people living in the house.
ReplyDeleteSherry,
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed your photo essay tour, what a magnificent home. But the painting of the kids? Just on the side of scary, lol. My favorite tree is the Cherry Blossom tree, fleeting beauty that fills my heart with joy.
Thank you for your comment on Junk Chic Cottage's Saturday spotlight. I truly appreciated the opportunity. Plus I'm meeting more bloggers and I just became a follower of your delightful blog.

I just saw a tv program about this property and how the government stole it from Robert E. Lee and his wife's family, following the war. The house and its contents look well preserved.
