Light inspiration with a parrot and an uncle...

This is a sponsored post for Parrot Uncle.

Is this gorgeous or what? The white walls, the door, the mirror, the hooks, the floor and the boots... this is pure perfection in my book.   And that light fixture!!! Could it be any better?
I'm just sayin'.

Parrot Uncle asked me if I would look through their products and share some of my favorite lighting options with you. I decided a long time ago if I was blessed enough to have a company contact me for partnership, I would have to LOVE their product. And after visiting their website, I was blown away by their abundant, beautiful assortment of lighting options.

They have everything from lamps, wall lighting, ceiling lights, ceiling fans, LED lighting, outdoor lighting and accessories.

They have a huge selection of hanging lightingThis is one of my favorites. I'm so impressed how affordable so many of them are. Thrifty and pretty? What could be better.

Here are a few that caught my eye. I love the rustic, vintage, industrial look. I'd be happy with any of these, hint hint to my family.

Do any of you have a fascination with the Edison bulbs? I do! And Parrot Uncle is definitely the place to pick these up. I seriously got side tracked with the light bulbs and then the light fixtures that the bulbs go in...  let's just say I was in heaven and a lot of time went by.

Did you know they even have one called the Christmas tree bulb? Is this cool or what? And speaking of Christmas, Parrot Uncle has a sale going on. All products are between 20% and 50% off  NOW until Christmas.

They also have Tiffany lamps and Pendant lighting.
Tiffany lights are classic. They'd make the perfect Christmas gift, especially
for that hard-to-buy-for person.

And you won't believe this, but all 3 of these lamps below are under $35.

And take a look at these lamps. What else can I say? Simply beautiful.

Isn't this pendant light pretty. I can just imagine this hanging over my kitchen sink. I love the coppery, black, white, and cream colors. Whether you prefer color or neutrals like me; Parrot Uncle has something for everyone.
There's also free shipping and free returns when orders are over $50. I hope you'll visit their website at https://www.parrotuncle.com/

Fall Inspiration 2015

It's finally here. Cooler weather! I love everything about fall... Except the countdown to Christmas. I'm not quite ready for that!

Here is my low to no budget 2015 fall decor. I shopped the house and pulled it together. I love decorating with natural elements. Rusty, crusty, lots of texture, and ...cheap!

This is the buffet in the dining room.

We raise and sell waterfowl and other birds, feathers galore. Perfect for fall decorating.

This is the mantel.

Deer sheds, dried hydrangeas, and cotton bolls are in the mix. Chicken feeders on top of terracotta pots for height make perfect sense to me.

Recently, I picked up this large basket at the thrift store. I think I want to stain or paint it. It needs to be darker or maybe white? In the meantime, I tossed in the extra decor stuff I wasn't using and displayed it on the coffee table. I love a collection of random stuff.

What about corn??? This was so easy. Leaving the shucks attached make this corn look amazing. What a pretty color!
I tucked the silk down in the bottom of the vase, nestled the corn inside, and set the whole thing in some chicken wire. Okay! So I was feeling creative...

Here is last years mantel.

I enjoyed this "buffet" in my dining room for a few years. I recently changed the dining room around and moved this to another room. Time for change! Yes, I decorated it for fall only to disassemble and move it 2 weeks later... For me, when inspiration strikes, I roll with it.

The maple leaves are starting to turn colors. This is my real leaf wreath from last year.
You can see how easy it is to make here.
If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I've been working on a pallet project for my dining room. I can't wait to share all the details with you here on the blog. Happy Fall Ya'll!

Farmhouse Coffee Table

I really do Thrift My House. I love a bargain. From furniture, to clothing, to groceries... I'm always looking to save money.

I was at Salvation Army a few weeks ago and saw this coffee table for $12.99.  I couldn't get to the register fast enough. Do you see what I see? A farmhouse coffee table! For $12.99!

I sanded the top so it would soak up some stain. You can see the particle board showing through in a few places... no worries.

I first stained it a dark brown. It looked pretty BAD... the color was very uneven. I then stained it ebony wiping off some of the stain so the brown would shine through. I brushed on a couple of coats of water based poly. Perfect! Perfectly Imperfect!

I love the size of this table with the couch.

I primed and painted the sides and legs. Lately I've been using primer, latex paint and poly instead of chalk paint. Can you believe it? With kids, this table will get a lot of wear and tear.
I don't want to baby it at all.

I distressed it just a little.

I noticed that when I distressed it, the paint wanted to roll a bit compared to chalkpaint but it still looked good to me.

New Hardwood Floors

So..... I took a 3 month blog break. I didn't plan on it, it just kind of happened.
I hope all of you had a nice summer. I did. It was nice spending time with my family and I got a few projects done.

In my last post, I shared with you that we were getting hardwood floors. We've had them over 3 months now and I love them.

Here is before.

We wanted to save a little money so we pulled up the carpet and prepared the floor ourselves.

Ignorance is really bliss! I had no idea how hard it was going to be to remove all the particle board that was beneath the carpet. Using a crowbar, (we tried everything) it literally came up in small pieces.

The heating and cooling vents had to be lowered.

Lots of sweeping and vacuuming.

The carpet was over 20 years old. I liked it better already. This is the view coming in the back french door.

We moved most of the furniture on the back porch but worked around these heavier pieces.

We decided on a prefinished hardwood. The brand name of the floor is Somerset and the color is provincial. We ordered it online. We saved about $700 compared to what the local floor places wanted for the same floor.

We hired these guys to install it.  It would have taken us years... seriously.

I wanted to show you these cool vents. They fit flat to the floor so you can put furniture on top of them if needed. I had to stain the outer piece because it was nailed down with the rest of the floor but the vent part is removable. I still need to stain them.

Because one thing always leads to another... I painted the front door.

And the stairs. I also painted the end tables. I actually painted the end tables 4 times (each) .... white, gray, green, then back to white... but we won't talk about that.

I painted the french doors inside and out. Remember I had wanted to paint them black? With the brown floors, I think white is best. (unless I change my mind...)

I've only mopped these floors twice in the past 3 months. Having a no shoe policy helps with that! I occasionally vacuum and dust mop. They look clean even when they're dirty.
Gotta love that!

That's it for the new floors. I can't wait to hear what you think.
I look forward to visiting and catching up with all of you.
