Laundry Room - One Last Look.

Laundry Room Makeover
coming soon...
This is what my laundry room looked like last year BEFORE I got new floors, painted the walls, scraped off the ugly popcorn ceiling, got new curtains, changed up the open cabinets and!!!!! I'm getting a new washer and dryer. (we're still on the hunt) I enjoyed my laundry room like this but like everything else in this house....it's time for a change.

After 19 years and many minor repairs... No, they don't make them like they used to... my dryer finally died. A piece of it rusted completely in half! And my husband couldn't fix it. Thank the Lord! I'm ready to throw the rusty crusty things away. Only one setting on my washer works and that's what I've been using for years. Nope, we're not the type of people to get the latest and greatest... we use stuff till it's dumpster worthy.

So for this re-post, let's talk about what I liked and didn't like about my laundry room. I love my metal pole for hanging clothes. Totally worth having to take the doors off of the cabinets to have it. I used to have a clothes rack and it just got in the way.

(Before)

After a while, all the "stuff" in the cabinets started to get on my nerves... too much clutter. I definitely made a change there.

(Before)

I painted the walls a soft green because of the green in the linoleum floors. Can you guess what color they are now?
(Before)

I still like this rug. It's one of my favorites; I bought it for 6 bucks at Ross. The same rug (Nate Berkus) was 30 bucks at Target.

I really don't know how I lived without this shoe bag hanging on the back of the laundry room door. It. is. perfect.
(Before)

One thing I enjoyed was the makeover that I did on this laundry detergent, fabric softener and bleach bottle.

I used paint for plastic and it held up pretty good for over a year. I kept them refilled .... what I meant to say is... my daughter kept them refilled.  I'm not using them in my makeover but I hope someone out there likes the idea and maybe uses it.

The pail and lint box came in very handy. I gave the lint to the birds to make nests...
they appreciated it.

This is the last look at my old laundry room. It's funny (and a little scary) to look back and see how much my taste in decor has changed in only a years time.
(Before)
I'll be sharing my NEW laundry room in several posts.  If anyone has suggestions on what's the best top loader washer and a decent dryer .. I'd love to hear them.

Thank you so much for stopping by

  1. Hi Sherry, your laundry room looked good before so I can hardly wait for the update. I did mine last fall and I was amazed at the difference. I don't have a good top loader to recommend.
9 years ago I purchased a set of the Kenmore Elites top loaders to fit in my laundry but I am not happy with them. The dryer is works good enough but the washer is contrary. I look forward to the day, these bite the dust and I can replace them.

    Have fun decorating.

  2. Oh forgot to say, what a great idea for the plastic bottles and lint for the birds. You are so creative. Also love the rug from Ross.

  3. As cute as this one was, I can't wait to see the change. My hubby and I are like you...we use it until it dies or is on it's last leg. My washer and dryer are both older and I drive a 2001 vehicle. I am in the market for a newer one though. I think it is silly to try to keep us with the latest and greatest! have a lovely evening.

    Blessings, Vicky

  4. I totally understand the changing in a year thing, I can't stand any of the red in my house now!
I love your laundry, but I guess you have white walls now because of the checkerboard floor? Dying to see it. I have to redo my laundry, so I will be watching!

  5. Fun post...looking back at what was perfect and wonderful for a time. Anxious to see the changes you made, Sherry. Two years ago, we bought a matching washer and dryer set...first time in our married life we had a new washer and dryer at the same time that actually match. Not sure that makes sense, but hopefully you get the idea. :-)

  8. Hi Sherry, Your laundry room looked beautiful and now I'm curious to see what you've changed. I wish I had a laundry room but they are not common in Europe. My washer is in the bathroom and the dryer is in the garage. I love your basket collection.

  9. My washer/dryer advice is to not get more than you need. There are so many bells and whistles that you could get, but if you haven't used them up til now and don't see using them in the future, save your money. There are some real "Cadillacs" out there, but maybe you just need an "Impala". I can't wait to see your re-do.

  10. Sherry, you change your stuff more than anyone I know!! Are you sure you won't have repainted the room before the reveal is finished???!!! I love your laundry room and am looking forward to seeing the new. I'm no help on the washer/dryer...mine are Bosch stacking. Sorry.

  11. Wow, Sherry, I love your "before" room. As I'm re-doing mine you share some really good tips. I like your idea of the rod going across rather than a drying rack. That's always getting in my way, too. Your refillable laundry containers are so cute! Can't wait to see the new reveal. ~ Amy

  12. I love your laundry room the way it is, so pretty, but I do understand getting tired of seeing the same thing everyday. I have thought of how I could make my laundry bottles more attractive, but I am too lazy to refill them. I do love your idea though! Very cute. Maybe you could send me your daughter for refills!! :) I love my LG direct drive front load. Sorry can't help you on a great top load model. Looking forward to your new laundry room reveal Sherry.

  13. Sherry, your before picture is really cute so I can't wait to see your promised after! Since I don't have a garage my poor laundry room gets all of the overflow and the word I would use to describe it, is not pretty! You got me feeling inspired...maybe after I finish my bedroom projects :)

  14. I can so identify with making changes. Our homes are our sanctuaries. They deserve new face lifts now and again.

Have fun with your new laundry room.

  16. I can't give you any advice about a new washer or dryer since mine is pretty old still. I can't wait to see your redesigned laundry room. Looks like you have some good storage in there already. We use our laundry room as a pantry too. So, it's packed!

  17. I love your laundry room. Have you bought a new washer/dryer yet? I sold appliances a few years back and I always liked Whirlpool. Whirlpool also makes Kenmore. Stay away from Frigidaire, Maytag isn't what it used to be, and GE would be my second choice. I'm on my 2nd Whirlpool front loader. I gave my kids my old one when we moved and they are doing plenty of laundry with a family of 6. Can't wait to see your final reveal.

  18. We had Phil's mom's old washer for YEARS! It was completely rusted and I told him under no uncertain terms were we bringing it to the new house. I finally got a new washer and dryer! Yay! I wanted the SIMPLEST w/d you could get. I didn't want anything fancy with computers. We bought Speed Queen. They still use steel for the inside workings (instead of plastic) and I have to say that I'm thrilled with them. Granted, I've only had them 9 months, but so far so good! And they weren't horrifically expensive either...

  20. I purchased a Speed Queen about a year ago after doing extensive research. I LOVE this machine - no bells & whistles, but it is made entirely in the US, and it gets the job done! I paid close to $800 for mine, but I feel it was well worth it. You can go on you tube and watch videos of it in action posted by owners who just love their Speed Queens.
