I made a few changes in the living room.
I shopped the house and pulled this simple vignette together.

This is the year of keeping things simple.
Another important change in the living room is the newest addition to our family.
He's a bit shy...
He's a bit shy...
Meet Bobbi.
A baby parakeet; we're not sure if he's a boy or girl yet. For now we say he.
What a sweet little bird. I've enjoyed taking care of him.
Yes, I've been talking to a bird... and my plants... Don't judge :)

He loves to sit and look out the window.
At night he likes to sleep with his cage covered. When he's tired, he gets all puffed up and closes his eyes. I love pulling the blanket off of him in the morning... he's so happy to see me.
It's kind of like having a baby but NOT!

When he's not in front of the window, he sits right behind my chair. When we leave the house, which is not very often, we leave music on to keep him company. He's very smart and loves attention. He's quite the show-off!
He's fitting into our family perfectly and we're happy to have him. I'm surprised how little trouble he's been. We clean the cage once a week and vacuum stray bird seed up a few times a week. No big deal compared to how much we enjoy him. If you want to know more about how to care for parakeets, you can read about it here.
I guess it's time to get busy. I still have to pull the mantel together, decorate my chalkboard, and I have something new to show you. Hopefully, I'll share that with you next week.
I hope you were inspired!
Thank you for stopping by Thrift My House.

Your new bird is really pretty and I know is a lot of company. When my girls were young we had one and enjoyed it very much. Your decor is very nice.

Aww, Bobby is pretty! We had one when my boys were little too. :)
ReplyDeleteI love your new vignette. Books are the best base to start with.
One of these days I will have an old window to decorate...I love this look. Many years ago, we had a sweet bird who looked identical to li'l Bobby! Parakeets are neat little birds. Have fun with him...or her :)
ReplyDeleteI love how you pulled all this together. Love the very old books, they make a real statement. Great fun to have a little bird for company.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet new addition to your family.
ReplyDeleteHow cute and fun is this! We had a sweet little bird a few years ago:)
ReplyDeleteEverything looks amazing!

What a sweet little bird!
ReplyDeleteShopping your house is always fun... finding things you already have and changing things up, I love doing that! Your vignette is lovely! Love those old books. I also enjoyed your tale of sweet Bobbi! My parents have two lovebirds, and they really are quite entertaining!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day :)
What a cute addition to the house. I haven't had a bird since I was a little girl.
ReplyDeleteI pinned your window/book/clock vignette. I have to take some things up to the attic today and I'm going to hunt down some old books while I am up there.
I was just at Michael's and bought a new (old looking) clock. They were buy one/get one and I could not find another single thing of the brand that I liked so I actually got two of the identical clock and just displayed them. I think I am the only one who will recognize that they are the same because of the way I used them.
Hi Sherry and welcome to sweet Bobbi!! He is such a pretty parakeet. I love how you have his cage displayed under the shelf. A spot just made for him.
ReplyDeleteIt is the season of simplify and refresh. I'm doing the same here. Looking forward to your something new to share. Love the clock!! Have fun my friend. xo
Sherry, so beautiful! And hello Bobbi! Welcome to the family. :-)
ReplyDeleteLove the vignette with old books and window frame! And what a beautiful parakeet who also sounds like great company to have around.

Aw, I had a blue parakeet when I was a teenager. I loved my parakeet..I know you will enjoy yours. Seems we are all into simple this year! Your vignette looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI've never had a bird. I wonder what the pupsters would think...
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Everything looks wonderful! And Bobbi is the cutest! We have had birds over the years. We had a parakeet at one point and we had a cockatiel too. They were both sweet birds. I do not like parrots. My in-laws always had one and they are not nice. They only like their owners and will bite anyone else! The last one my mother-in-law had would chase my son if he got out. It was so funny seeing a then 18 year old boy running from a small bird who was charging him and chasing him around the house...lol!
ReplyDeleteWe had a parakeet just like that when we were first married. I bet he loves sitting in front of the window. I love the old books piled with the clock on top
ReplyDeleteI love your new vignette and the cute clock in your last photo! So great.
ReplyDeleteI mentioned on IG that had a parakeet...actually two. Three parrots as well, one of which we still have. A canary and 2 finches. And I raised cockatiels and fed them by hand to make them adept to being close to humans. At one time I had 15 birds in my house!!! lol! I'll have to share that on the blog one day.
One thing I will say is bring Bobbi to your pet store and have his wings clipped every now and then, then you can handle him without him flying away and hurting himself. Do this while he's young and gets used to it. They are very social and it's the best part of having a bird.
Best wishes! Feel free to ask me anything!

Congrats on your new little friend, what a cutie!! I think you're really going to enjoy hearing Bobbi tweet away. Your simple set up of window. wreath and old books looks so refreshing, especially for this time of year. Great job!!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty vignette with the wreath in front of the old window! Love your new little friend. I have a cockatiel (have had him for 16 years) and he is such a sweetie. xo Karen
ReplyDeleteI love how your home is a beautiful mix of old and new. It looks so warm and inviting. Congratulations on your new pet!!!
ReplyDeleteCute little budgie!! We had them growing up... It was only when I got a Hahn's Macaw a few years ago, was I made aware they have dander... and I am severely allergic! Sad face! But he's in a good home... Enjoy Bobbi !
ReplyDeleteSherry,
ReplyDeleteBobbie is so cute, looks just like the one we had when I was little! His name was Pretty Boy, so much fun! Your vignette is lovely, old windows are the best to decorate with, have to say, I have more of them then I should!
Rebecca
Those shelves are so pretty. Cute little friend you got there!! He looks curious :)
ReplyDeleteHello Sherry!
ReplyDeleteI am delighted to be visiting your lovely blog today...{{Smiles}}. Stopping by from Roses of Inspiration...
I love your vingette with the white window frame and vintagey clock...so gorgoeus! I would love to do something like it someday... And welcome to your new parakeet! Aww! Bobbi is a sweet name...we have two, but we got them when they were older and they're not tame at all...they just make noise which is quite sad...
Have a wonderfully blessed Thursday!
Hugs!
I LOVE your simple decor in the living room! I went with that same style in my new guest room -- it's my favorite room in the house now!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweetie! Love his color. My husband had a large bird that was a nuisance and a real bother. Nice to know parakeets are easy to take care of. We have kitties so it wouldn't work for us now though! I stole your idea of putting the clock on the vintage books. Love it!
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweetheart. I saw him on IG earlier this week. I love Bobbi's colors.
My sister had two Cockatiel when growing up.

ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
Hi Sherry, he is so cute! I have had a few parakeets during my life. When I was a kid we had one that we taught to do the wolf whistle. His cage was in a sunny window in the kitchen that was hind my the door when you opened it. One day a lady friend of my Mom and Dad's came over and Daddy was just behind her was she entered the kitchen. The bird gave off his wolf whistle and Daddy got a dirty look. There was laughter and explaining to do, as you can imagion, LOL.
ReplyDeleteHave a happy day,
Connie :)
Hi Sherry,
ReplyDeleteI like your idea of "keeping it simple" I think I will too. Parakeet Bobbi be it a girl or boy sure is cute. I've never had a bird as a pet so I will enjoy your photos and follow ups on Bobbi. BTW Sherry I talk to my pets and plants too ... They listen!
xoxo,
Vera
What a sweetie! I know you're enjoying such a friendly and cheerful new addition to your family.
