So it all started something like this....
I needed a new rug for the living room. I decided to go with an oval jute rug that I found at Overstock. It was perfect! For a while...
I was thinking that I wanted less rug and more hardwood floor showing so I bought a smaller rug.
Well... what on earth was I thinking? More floor means more dust! And over time it started to look too small... kind of like a small rug island, floating a coffee table and a rabbit.
I got over the less rug thing pretty fast.
So, I moved the smallish jute rug to the dining room.
And I found a larger jute rug for the living room, also from Overstock. It fills the space nicely.
It was a lot of jute... too much, so I picked up this beautiful rug (also from Overstock) to lay on top.
I love how it adds another layer of pretty to the room.
And then it happened... Jute fever hit! It was madness I tell ya...
Let's just blame it on Ross. Their jute rugs are cheap!
It took a while to get this many rugs but I persevered and checked their rug section often :)
I got one for the front door, one for the back door, and one for the door leading to the garage...
I picked up one to go in front of the kitchen sink and the washroom sink...
I was on a roll and even found this one for the fireplace...
Sometimes I get carried away....
Let's just look at it for a minute...
I'm loving the neutral colors and textures.
Tell me, do you ever go overboard when you like something?
I've been known to buy 5 of the same shirt if it's one that I love...
I hope you were inspired!
Thank you so much for stopping by Thrift My House.

Sherry you have put a huge smile on my face today. I think you truly, madly and deeply love Jute!!! When my Mom (was a clothing junkie) and I would shop her advice to me was always the same "Vera if you like the fabric, the cut, the style buy it in every color!!! Well Moms looking down from Heaven probably saying "Vera add color to your closet it's all Black". Visit me later on this afternoon, new post going up, there's a new rug - but it's not Jute. I just replaced a sisal. Thank you Sherry for making me chuckle today.

Yes I am inspired...I need at least one jute rug. You have a lovely home.
ReplyDeleteYou certainly have a beautiful home and yes you have inspired me. I am sadly lacking in jute rugs.
ReplyDeleteI love jute and/or sisal rugs, too...they do not wear well with these crazy dogs. They are very appealing to a young chewer. Grrrr. Be careful on those layered rugs...if you are like me (and I hope you aren't!) it is an accident waiting to happen. I trip on things- I trip on nothing, for that matter! LOL I love that the bird got a rug, too...we must keep our friends happy and stylish. :) Looking good, Sherry! xo, T.
ReplyDeleteI love them all. I think they look nice.
ReplyDeleteTotally get that thing about going overboard ... that must by why I have so many: 1.Old brass picture frames 2.Vintage creamers and pitchers 3.Hand painted china plates 4.Dinosaur toys 5.Beaded change purses ..... etc.....
ReplyDeleteI love all your jute rugs! Too many? What does that mean?
Wow your house looks so pretty with all of your jute rugs Sherry! I do go overboard when I like a top too and will buy two in different colors! Haha. I hope all is well with you.
ReplyDeleteJulie
I was wondering where you took off to. Oh yes, I get on a tangent and Katy bar the door!
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Haha, this made me laugh. You definitely have a jute thing going. It all looks nice though. I'm not a go overboard person for the same thing. ;-)
ReplyDeleteOverboard or not, you did real good! They all look just lovely. I especially like the way you placed the other rug over top the living room rug, and the one under the bird cage is adorable.
ReplyDeleteYour home is beautiful by the way.
I'm right there with you in having to buy extra when I find something I like. It seems as if they always get rid of the good things, so you have to buy extra.
Have a beautiful weekend~~
Hello, What a cute post you made me laugh! And I have never used jute, but I will check out our Ross store soon! You have a lovely home!
ReplyDeleteHappy Spring!
Hugs, Roxy
You tried your best and I think everything has fallen into place! I love jute, I have a few at the lake and now a seagrass rug in my den here in the city. I've heard they last forever. World Market sells a size that fits in front of doors and your kitchen sink for about $20. I love the one I had but as with all areas like this, it got dirty fast and I couldn't wash it.
ReplyDeleteI love the look you have, Sherry...so nice!! :)
Jane
I laughed so hard reading your blog about jute. Your blog is called "Thrift My House", but sounds like you spent some big bucks on jute. OCD? Jute is pretty, but we soon 'got over it' because it's rough and scratchy and as someone pointed out, it can't be washed.
ReplyDeleteYep, I never spend big money on home decor but I spent money on the rugs because I think they're a great investment. Although they were at a great price compared to others. I did a lot or research before purchasing these rugs and so far I'm very happy with them. You CAN spot clean jute... you can find out how by googling. We don't have cats or dogs in the house so that makes it easier to live with. I vacuum over it regularly and shake out the smaller ones occasionally. A few of my rugs are scratchy, but the main one in the living room is nice and soft. My little boy plays on it, no problems. I might get over the whole jute rug thing .. but not anytime soon :)
DeleteI love the big rug! And I'm obsessed with rugs as well, but I don't have any jute. Not to say I never will. ;) Your family room is absolutely beautiful!!
ReplyDelete-andi
Yes, dang it--I think jute would look good in my dining room, once I find a new set or at least a table!!
ReplyDeleteI love jute rugs! Yours are all so pretty and I love that the bird cage got one too! Your house is absolutely gorgeous Sherry! I love it...:) Have a wonderful rest of the weekend!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Vicky
When we lived in Jamaica (40 years ago) one of the first things I bought for our house was a round jute rug. I wanted so badly to bring that rug home with us, but the cost of transporting it was too expensive for us at the time. Now I am looking at all of your jute and am wishing I had brought the rung back.
ReplyDeleteEverything looks great!
Your Home is just beautiful and I will say I do like the bigger rug with the smaller rug on top, love the colors and it seems to bring the whole room together. I had to laugh when you said you knew it was a problem when you even bought the bird a rug :) I get you on the shirt thing, I have been known to buy one in more colors if I like a shirt!!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I am inspired. I love it. And yes, I get the shirt thing and I do it with jeans too. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI love your home.
Carla
They look fantastic! I've never gone crazy with rugs but dishes and anything red often follow me home.
ReplyDeletePlease share at Thoughts of Home on Thursday. :)
I am in the process of buying a new home and I'm planning on doing jute rugs all throughout it. Thanks for the heads-up at looking at Ross. Your home looks great. I love the one under the birdcage.
ReplyDeleteWendy
Sherry, I love the way you've layered your rugs. I like jute because it is both neutral and warm, while bringing in a natural element. Girl, don't get me started on the Ross home department--love it!
ReplyDeleteHi Sherry, first of all before I write anything else, "Welcome Back To Blog-Land" . . . you have been sorely missed. Your home is beautiful and filled with so much loveliness. I am very bad about doing the same thing. If I find the perfect top, bottom or shoe that is comfortable, washes well, and that I can wear casual and add a little something to get away with being comfortable in a dresser situation . . . I buy one in every color that suits me. I am a huge fan of the 3/4 length sleeve, vee neck tee and when I find nice ones, watch out, I go on a buying spree :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Spring!
Connie :)
Funny I should hit upon your blog today. I'm in a tizz about my living room rug and wondering if I can justify replacing it after only a year.
ReplyDeleteOh no, you are not alone!
ReplyDeleteI think we all do this from time to time, especially with clothes.
When you find a shirt or top you like, you better get all the colors or prints because when you go back later they will be gone.
M : )
Hi Sherry,
ReplyDeleteI like all your jute rugs.......hey, when you find something you like and it works
go for it............ I buy the same clothing style all the time because I like it and
it works......and jute is perfect really for the new neutrals. which I love too.
Your home is very warm, inviting and well put together, it really looks lovely and
cozy......
Blessings, Nellie
Sherry,
ReplyDeleteI go overboard with jeans and tops. If I find a color, style and fit that works I buy two of each!
Now, tell me, do you like the rugs from Overstock?
We are shopping for rugs too.
Everything looks so pretty:)
Jemma
Please join us tomorrow at Thoughts Of Home On Thursday!
Love love love the jute rug! Thank you for sharing at SYC!
ReplyDeleteI laughed at your line about the same shirts. I bought 3 tees online from Old Navy last summer. And, I just ordered 3 more - they are so easy for kicking around the house.
ReplyDeleteI love all of your jute.
Thanks for sharing with SYC.
Your rugs look really lovely Sherry! I love the look and texture of jute rugs, but the cats love them for scratching so there won't be any in this house. It's also the reason I have no wicker. How fun that the bird got a rug too. Why not!
ReplyDeleteYou are NOT alone and I am loving the jute too! The layering of the rugs is a lot of fun also! Thank you for sharing with us on the Art of Home-Making Mondays at Strangers & Pilgrims on Earth! :)
ReplyDeleteEverything is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining Cooking and Crafting with J & J!
Hi Sherry! I've missed this post... and maybe others...I need to go back and check! I do love the jute rugs and they all look great where you've placed them...even the one under the bird's cage! :) Your home is gorgeous and you have a great sense of style. If I get stuck on one thing, it would probably be small accent lamps and clocks...oh and old books...can't forget them! Enjoy your week!
ReplyDeleteThose rugs are all great, and I can't believe the small ones came from Ross! I've never been inside one before, but we have one about 15 minutes into town. Looks like I'm going jute rug hunting there soon! Thanks for sharing at Inspiration Thursday.
ReplyDeleteCan't get too much of a good thing! lol! Love the layering and all of the jute goodness. Your entire room looks so inviting. I have a jute rug in my living room. Ordered it years ago from PB. Really could use a new one. I'll be checking Ross. Who knows, I may be bringing home a few. Lol! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
ReplyDeletehugs,
Jann
Hi Sherry, just hoping back to let you know that I will be featuring you at SYC this week.
ReplyDeletehugs,
Jann
A very entertaining post! I hopped over from Inspiration Thursday. I love jute rugs, and I can see why you are obsessed. They add such a fresh contemporary look yet they also look great with vintage and antique pieces. I would try them myself, but I have a kitty who I know would just love to use a jute rug as her own personal scratching post. And so I must wait.
ReplyDeleteI am a little late to the party but I wanted to tell you about Rugs Anonymous! A great program for those with rug addictions..... Great post Sherry. Love your gorgeous home.
ReplyDeleteEverything looks so pretty. Wish I had your talent! You have a lovely home!!
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Sherry, Have you noticed that a few of your blogging sisters seem more like cousins or next door neighbors? There are some that I have been corresponding with pretty much since my earliest blogging days and these sweet friends have become very special to me. Then they slow down and don’t blog very often. . . That’s fine, it’s more important to get out there and enjoy your life, but it makes me wonder if there is trouble in their lives, or health issues. You are one of these special people.
ReplyDeleteJust worried about you . . .
Sending my love and prayers,
Connie :)
I bought 4 of the same shirts in the same color gray at Old Navy last year. I guess I was afraid they wouldn't hold up, but they're still going strong and I have to space them out in my closet so I don't wear them within a few days of each other. So glad to hear I'm not the only one who does that ;-0
ReplyDeleteRugs add so much to a room, and I am partial to jute rugs. Really like the changes - now following you on Blogger
