My hallway has been neglected for 20 years.
I just wasn't inspired...
See the pretty buffet I decorated for Valentine's Day last year?
See the hallway just beyond it, yep, that's the hallway I'm talking about... pitiful.
One day, I was visiting Kelly's blog, The Essence of Home,
and she was explaining how to repurpose things. She had these beautiful armoire doors hanging on the wall and...I was inspired!
***
I had these doors in the attic. I took them off of my bedroom armoire a while back. I hung them on the hallway wall, added a storage bench, and a makeover was born. Suddenly, I knew exactly what I needed to do. It's amazing how inspiration happens!
Note.. there are 5 doors in this hallway.
The one on the left is my oldest daughter's bedroom and the one on the right is the door that leads to the garage. I'm taking this picture from the doorway that leads to the dining room.
Circling around...
Beside the door leading to the garage is my bedroom. The laundry room and a hall closet are on the right. The orange rectangle is my ironing board. This really is a room full of doors.
First of all, I painted the walls, all 5 doors, the trim and the ironing board.
Big difference already...
I painted the door leading to the garage black. I was very nervous painting a door black... but I did it and I'm glad!
I painted the armoire doors, the bench, and made a couple of pillows. The white rag rug (machine washable) came from Ross.
(we don't wear shoes in the house so a white rug is fine)
Here's a another BEFORE.
And AFTER.
I can't believe it took me so long to update this space.
The basket on the bench is for "stuff" that accumulates on the bench. Being realistic here.
One last look. I can't stop looking at it :)
Let's just say, I'm so happy with this makeover.
Wall Color- Valspar Woodlawn Colonial Gray
White Paint- Olympic Delicate White
Black Paint- Olympic Black Magic
I hope you were inspired!

Terrific!!! It looks great. I love the black door and have been thinking about painting some of our doors black. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteLove it! Just painting makes a huge difference! But I really like the doors you added and the bench! My hallway has not been touched in nearly 20 years but it's just that, a hallway with 4 doors and a linen closet! No room for anything pretty, however, maybe some new paint will help! Thanks for the inspiration! Blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteI am so inspired by your makeover! Really lovely!
ReplyDeleteYour hallway turned out so beautiful Sherry! Repainting made such a fabulous difference, and I love the doors above the bench. They add a lot of character and interest Great job!.
ReplyDeleteHi, new commentor, Wow, how french does that makeover look! So simple yet so effective! Well done, I am a huge fan of upcycling, and have a few projects in the pipeline, I will be very interested to see what inspires you next. Take care, susie.
ReplyDeleteThat looks so good! I'm tickled that I did something that inspired you to do the same! I like how it's something that you already had and you repurposed it and made it something you loved again. Your entry area looks so pretty. I love the door painted black too.
ReplyDeleteOh, it looks great Sherry! See what a little time, paint & creativity will do? Great job!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the colors you used for this makeover, Sherry!!! This looks fantastic...especially with the black garage door. Painting that door black takes away the monotony of so many white doors...love, love, love!!

Looks fantastic! The doors make the spot more important and pretty. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Sherry! This is absolutely stunning!! I'm having hallway envy. Now that you've done it...was it worth the 20 years of waiting?? lol! I just finished painting another wall in the Little Shack my special red colour and am enjoying the fresh new look. I also re-arranged the furniture, which I always finds makes me feel like it's a brand new space. We'll be heading back to our Little Shack on wheels (our RV) in a couple of days as hubby is out of the hospital and on the mend. I'm going to miss my Little Shack on the Hill, but do look forward to seeing my kids and grandkids again. Maybe some RV renos in the near future?? Take care, hugs-Sue
ReplyDeleteI totally love this makeover Sherry. Doing the garage door black is awesome. You rocked this look and I love the wall color with the white doors. The bench is adorable with the doors above. Great addition with the basket to catch stuff coming and going.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice weekend.

Hi Sherry! What a transformation...it sure changed the character of the space. I hear on the black door fears ....but it paid off! It looks terrific. Jane
ReplyDeleteHey--this looks great! That wall color is great! (Are you going to paint all your doors black now? My friend Elissa did, and I like them!)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I love it! -Marci @ Stone Cottage Adventures
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, what a difference, I love the white and black against those gray walls and the blessed banner is so pretty against the doors. I just bought some letters to spell out blessed but haven't decided yet to just paint them or cover them with pretty papers!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty, great job!
ReplyDeleteI wished I enjoyed painting--more would get done at our house.

Wow Sherry it looks great. It is amazing what a little paint and doors can do. You know me and doors. Never can have enough uses for doors. The entry way is so inviting and pretty. Great job.

ReplyDeleteLooks amazing Sherry! As usual I Love it, I can see why you were exhausted when we last emailed....which btw is still the best advise I've received ;)
ReplyDeleteActually I was inspired! I have a mudroom that is in need of updating, and I would love to paint the garage door black, but I'm a chicken. So now that I know you love yours, maybe I'll quit clucking.
ReplyDeleteI saw your painted storage bins on Hometalk, I even clipped to the board I curated for Hometalk and then I started following Silo Hill Farm and saw your guest post! So now I am following through GFC.
