The cheapest piece of furniture I've ever bought.
I picked up this bench for $1.50 at Salvation Army.
You would have thought I had won the lottery...
I painted it white and I stenciled a song lyric my husband sometimes sings to me.
It's a song by Randy Travis, released the year we were married. 1987.
I wonder whatever happened to him?
There's a lot of room underneath the bench. Perfect for extra storage.
I placed it at the end of my bed.
And it probably won't stay there forever and ever (or even a week) .... Amen.
So what's the last "cheap" thing that made you do the happy dance? or is it just me ....

Your bench is so neat and personal. I can't believe you got it for $1.50! It was such a great idea to stencil your special song lyric on there.
ReplyDeleteYou know Randy Travis had a stroke last year. He lives somewhere here in the Dallas area....I think.
Happy Dance for sure. That is an awesome re love of the bench. Love that song too and wow $1.50 woo hooo score. Looks so good Sherry.

Great find Sherry! $1.50 is a steal of a deal. It looks awesome with its new look.
ReplyDeleteHi Sherry, What a great find and a fabulous price. Love how you designed with it. So wonderful at the end of the bed and great storage underneath. I would be doing the happy dance too with this one. Great job. I guess my last great find at a great price was a night stand I am currently working on. I did a happy dance with that piece too. Love the song lyric. I heard RT has been very sick and not singing currently.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your treasure.
Hugs
This is too cute, Sherry!! It's so sweet that your hubby sings that song to you! I haven't been out to a good sale in a long time and this is the time of year I actually have time to do stuff!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for popping in. Actually, we had the old carpet replaced with new stuff. Our whole house is hardwood floors except the office and family room, as they sit over the crawl space instead of basement and the floors get super cold in the winter. The carpet and padding keeps the room insulated. Sort of nice to have it underfoot...I'm loving it!

OMG, Sherry I remember that song so well. It has special memories for me too.
ReplyDeletePutting it on the bench is such a great way of remembering it!
What a great find...I'd be doing the happy dance, too...and love how you transformed it in such a wonderfully personal way!
ReplyDeleteoh Sherry that is gorgeous! I love the stencil and that it has meaning for you. Last cheap thing, a suit valet $25 and I've seen them go for $200 on ebay woohoo
ReplyDeleteI love this...and especially that you took a cheap bench and made it something wonderful and personal!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! I am totally stealing this idea....using those song lyrics on something. That was my wedding song (for our little countyr wedding) back in 1988! Every time I hear it, it takes me back...:) I can sing every word, even if it has been 5 years since I heard it love it stenciled on the bench. I'm trying to figure out if I have anything in my stash to stencil it on. Thanks for the idea!
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Vicky
I Love this bench, especially the way you painted it. It's perfect at the end of your bed and love how you've used the space underneath it too.

love me some Randy Travis (and your bench) I'm following your blog now and can't wait to see all your thrify finds!
ReplyDeleteI would have been super excited to find that bench too :) Looks great!
ReplyDeleteRobin
Wow - that is a great bench. LOVE the make-over you did on it. I like narrow benches-you can put them just about anywhere.
ReplyDeleteThe last cheap thing I found? And old drop front desk that I STILL have to get painted. One more project!!! xo Diana
Great find, and a beautiful job you did on that bench! Randy Travis had a stroke and is recovering.
ReplyDeleteDeb
What a great deal and I love how it turned out.
ReplyDeleteHow cute is that Good Will find!
ReplyDeleteLately, all my decorating and projects have been "use what you have" so they all made me do the "Happy Dance" ... old bottles gathered together ... vignettes of mismatched items ... BOO banner made from some old dropcloth fabric.
ReplyDeleteLOVE your bench!
That looks so cute at the foot of your bed. I love the lettering you added to it. I got married in 1987 too! I remember that song well.
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love! You got a bargain & really transformed it--win, win! Blessings, Cecilia
ReplyDeleteWhat a deal. It looks like it is in great shape! ! I remember that song and love it too. The wording looks especially cool on the bench, Sherry. I just garbaged picked an odd table that will work perfectly between my washer and dryer with a wee bit of adjusting. I was going to have to make one so I was thrilled to see this thing on someone's curb! Love your new bench!!
ReplyDeleteWell Sherry
ReplyDeleteYou may think that I'm talking foolish
You've heard that I'm wild and free
So you may wonder how - I can promise you now
This love that I feel for your bench - always will be !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You know how much I love this, right? Songs - any song - and furniture combined.
Sheer perfection -
This turned out gorgeous
Forever and ever......................................amen
I love what you did with your thrift store find. Looks amazing. So I was reading along and I read "I wonder what ever happened to him" I thought you were talking about your hubby....first thought that goes through my mind was, you couldn't hide the body in the bench, you had already put your treasures under there....hmmmmm Now I realize you were talking about good ole Randy....duh Cheers.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great price and I love the transformation!
ReplyDeletexx,
Sherry
What a great thrift find -- color and words perfect! I can see building something like this for my room .. with a few words from Dan Fogelberg song " longer than" that was our wedding song... great idea thanks for sharing!

Love this Sherry! I have a plain white bench at the end of my bed and you've inspired me to paint it or something! Yours looks fabulous and such a steal at $1.50! I have no idea what happened to Randy Travis. I met him one time.....and didn't know who he was! Oops.
ReplyDeleteWow....what a bargain! Adorable makeover and I love that song! I think poor Randy got arrested recently!
ReplyDeleteoh I just loved Randy Travis...and that song. wedding dance of the year, right? What a great little bench and lyrics to place on it. The last I heard Randy travis was really sick. I actually saw him in concert a couple of times.
ReplyDeleteGreat makeover! I love that song and your bench. So sweet that your husband sings it to you! Now I'll be singing it all day in my head! LOL!!
ReplyDeleteThis is sweet! Love the sentiment, the price, and I think it looks great at the end of the bed...
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing at RLTLT, Sherry.
For ever and ever (or a week)...hehehehe... I did just pick up a gorgeous antique mission-style rocker from a friend of mine. She only wanted $15 for it, but it was her lucky day...I only had a $20 in my wallet, so that's what she got! I guess that's not CHEAP cheap, but for that chair it was!!
